(Louisa County Order Book 1742-1748, page 194) [Henry Dickenson and William Dickenson may have been brothers with the land they inherited from their father, Thomas Dickenson. John Rhodes shows up with Griffy Dickerson in the December 19, 1743 listing] _____ October 24, 1752 - Louisa Co., VA: Adam Jones & Catherine his wife of St. Martins Parish, Louisa County, planter, to William Dickenson of St. Margaret's Parish County of Caroline, planter, 200 acres with a plantation thereon and whereon the said Adam Jones and Catherine his wife now live in St. Martin's Parish Louisa for 130 pounds. Witnesses Edward Lankford, William Thomason, Henry Dickenson. (Louisa County Deed Book A, page 482) _____ 1754 - Louisa Co., VA: Henry Dickenson listed among those who went with George Washington to build Fort Necessity during the French and Indian War. _____ September 9, 1765 - Louisa Co., VA: Henry Dickerson and his wife Agnes of St. Martin's Parish sold to Griffith Dickerson for 230 pounds 466 acres with the houses and appurtences lying in St. Martin's Parish. The same is the land given and bequeath by the last will and testament of Thomas Dickarson late of the County of Caroline (deced) unto his son Henry Dickarson relation being had to the County Court of Caroline it will more fully and at large appear land is bounded on Thomas Dickarson's line, Berkleys line, Sam'l Temples corner, Francis Jordons line ... along Thomas Dickarson's line. (Deed Book C 1/2, page 111) [Henry Dickenson was the son of Thomas Dickenson. A Griffith Dickerson and a Thomas Dickerson were the executors of Thomas Dickenson's Caroline County will in 1734. In Colonial Caroline, Campbell states that Thomas Dickenson had eight children in nine years. This is probably when Henry Dickerson and his wife Agness moved from Louisa County to Prince Edward County (see Prince Edward County listing for November 17, 1766). The book, Old Home Places of Louisa County states that: 'In 1765 Henry Dickinson sold to his cousin Griffith Dickinson, 466 acres on Overton Fork of Elk Creek. Griffith Dickinson, son of Nathaniel and Mary Dickinson, never lived at Belle Isle. Instead he gave it to his son, James, finally devising it to him by will in 1785. James, a soldier in the Revolutionary War, married his neighbor, Mary Cole Barclay, daughter of Captain James Cole and widow of George Barclay. In 1828 their son, James Cole Dickinson, inherited Belle Isle and lived there with his wife, Mary.' It now appears that this information that Griffith was the son of Nathaniel & Mary may not be correct and that this was Griffith, wife Ann Cosby, and not Griffith, wife Sarah, who was son of Nathaniel and Mary Dickenson. The reference to Thomas Dickarson's line was to the adjacent 466 acre parcel Thomas Dickarson of Caroline County and wife Ann sold on October 16, 1771.] _____ Novenber 17, 1766 - Prince Edward Co., VA: Deed from Thomas Owen to Henry Dickerson et. al. 800 acres for 222 pounds. (Prince Edward County Deed Book 5, page 294) _____ February 24, 1767 - Prince Edward Co., VA: Henry Dickinson witnessed will of Thomas Baulding. (Prince Edward County Will Book 1, page 98) _____ September 6, 1767 - Prince Edward Co., VA: Inventory and appraisement of estate of John Owen by Hen. Dickerson. (Prince Edward County Will Book 1, page 112) _____ July 18, 1774 - Prince Edward Co., VA: Deed from Henry Dickerson to Archilaus Dickerson of Fincastle County [later became part of Washington County]. (Prince Edward County Deed Book 5, page 312) Deed from Henry Dickerson to William Dickerson 133 acres for 70 pounds. (Prince Edward County Deed Book 5, page 306) Deed from Henry Dickenson to John Maddox for 60 pounds, tract on fork of Sandy River, 133 acres, bounded by Archelaus Dickenson. (Prince Edward County Deed Book 5, page 306) Deed from Henry Dickenson to John Maddox for 60 pounds, tract on fork of Sandy River, 150 acres on Owen's line, Womack's line. (Prince Edward County Deed Book 5, page 310) [133 acres was 1/8 of Henry Dickenson's original 800 acre purchase on November 17, 1766.] _____ May 26, 1777 - Prince Edward Co., VA: Henry Dickenson deeded to John Clarke for 60 pounds, a tract of land 133 acres on Sandy River, and is the tract which Henry Dickenson intended for his son, Henry Jr. Signed Henry Dickenson Sr. (Prince Edward County Deed Book 5, page 490) [This indicates that Henry Dickenson, son of Thomas, had a son Henry Dickenson Jr. who probably had died.] _____ August 21, 1792 - Washington Co., VA: Henry Dickenson sold to his grandchild, John Dickenson, son of Humphrey, a negro slave named Dick for 5 shillings and love and affection. | |
