    Too old to fight in the Revolution, he acted in the capacity of "Patriot" and is listed in the Amherst Co. Order Book, 1773-1782, p 482.
    In the Virginia Gazette of June 6, 1778 the following notice appeared; "Galaspie,George, of Amherst Co., adv. that from late behavior of his wife, Mary Galaspie, he has reason to doubt her attachment to his interests and will not be answerable for any of her debts."21
    Listed on the Amherst Co. Personal Property Tax 1787 - List "B" as George "Gillispee". Having 1 male son (George Jr.) between 16 & 21 living with him, 4 slaves over 16, 3 slaves under 16, 8 horses and 9 cows.22
    Listed on the 1800 Amherst Co. Tax list as George "Gillespie". Owning 5 slaves over 16, 1 slave under 16 and 5 horses.8
    On November 21, 1803, George's widow (#2 Molly Faris) deeded her interest in his estate to his children for 300 pounds.
    George's heirs sold 404 acres of land in Amherst Co., VA on the south side of and adjoining the Piney River to David S. Garland. Except for a quarter acre where "our father George is buried". Piney river divides Amherst from Nelson Co. A Wright decendant of George (probably through Dicey) found a copy of the deed including the location of the burial site. Near the Wright home, there are no markers and the graveyard had been plowed over.4.

William Gillaspie.2 Born abt 1753 in Albermarle Co., VA?2,4 William died in Madison Co., KY on Oct 22, 1794; he was 41.10,2 Occupation: Cattle Trader.2
Earliest known visits to KY are in 1775 where he helped to raise a crop of corn with a Bejamin Logan in Lincoln Co.1 Was a pioneer mail carrier between KY & VA. 1 Listed in Amherst Co. Personal Property Tax 1787 - List 'B' as William 'Gillispee'. Owning 1 slave under the age of 16 and 1 horse.7 October 21,1794 Shot in a duel with Thomas Kennedy outside the Kennedy plantation after an argument over a card game. Dies of wound next day.11

On Dec 23, 1777 when William was 24, he married Nancy Ann Hudson2, daughter of Joshua Hudson & Mary Terrell, in Amherst Co., VA.2 Nancy Ann died in Mar 1838 in Madison Co., KY.2,10

Personal Property Tax List 'B' of 1787 as George 'Gillispee' Jr. and as the only white male between the ages of 16 and 21 living in his fathers house.7 Listed in Amherst Co. Tax List of 1800 as George 'Gillespie' Jr. Owning 1 slave over 16, 1 slave under 16 and 2 horses.8 Between 1803 and 1811 moved with his family, his brother Lewis and his family to Franklin Co., TN. It is believed that George Sr.'s widow Mary moved with them.9
On Jun 7, 1790 when George was 20, he married Mary (Polly) Faris, daughter of Charles Faris & Mary (Molly), in Amherst Co., VA.2 Born abt 1765.4 Mary (Polly) died bef 1842; she was 77.9
