Urshula Farris1 (F) b. 09 Jul 1759, d. a Jan 1803 | ||
| Note* | [Anderson,Richard.FTW] [Anderson.FTW] The maiden name of his first wife is given explicitly by his granddaughter Rachel Ferris Berry as Urshula Ferris. This can be found in the 1886, History of Union County, Kentucky. Rachel was still living at the time of publication of this history. A review of the Henry County Court records however, would imply that the spelling of this name had been corrupted by the grandchildren from what was originally 'Farris'. Armstead's properties at the time of his 1784 felony indictment and garnishment were in the hands of Charles Farris and included a spinning wheel and featherbed. Charles Farris,Sr. was his neighbor along Little Marrowbone Creek in Henry County, and had a son Charles Farris,Jr. The Virginia pension claims contain the file of Charles Farris of Henry County, whose claim on 06/07/1832 was rejected because he had not served 6 months. Urshual is believed descended from Ina Esom Farris of NC through Henry Farris and Charles Farris. | |

| Mother-Bio* | 09 Jul 1759 | Urshula Farris |
| Note* | [Anderson,Richard.FTW] [Anderson.FTW] John Anderson was born on May 10, 1780 near Martinsville, Virginia to Armstead Anderson and Urshula Farris. His birth date is recorded in the bible of his youngest sister Urshula Keaf nee Anderson now held by the Anderson family of Morgansfield, Kentucky. On May 16, 1780 his father Armstead anderson files a survey for a plat of land just south of Martinsville, Virginia along Little Marrowbone Creek. At the age of 5 he began his trek westward with his fathers family. They moved southward from Virginia to Greensville, South Carolina. In the late 1780's John's father explored through the Cumberland region of Eastern Tennessee. By 1792 they had acquired land in Logan County, Kentucky near the Red River near Sinking Spring along the road to Adairville. Here at the age of 21 John acquired 400 acres of land next to his father's patent. He married Mourning Maulding in Logan County on May 23, 1802. In 1803 after the death of his mother, Urshula, he and his brothers, father and father-in-law moved northwest to the area of present Union County, Kentucky. He accompanied them and then moved on across the Ohio River to the area of McLeansboro, Illinois in 1818 with Ambrose Maulding, his wife's father. His deeds indicate that he held land claims filed with the Shawneetown land office. The first Hamilton County, Illinois court meeting was held in his home near the current spillway of the old town reservoir. The secretary's desk used to sign the court papers is now in the McCoy Library in McLeansboro. John had four confirmed sons and four daughters. John's children were recorded on the fly leaf of the Constitution of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, last seen on July 1, 1915 in the possession of Frances Anderson nee Hines, the last wife of Thomas Anderson, John's son. 2. John Anderson. Born May 10, 1780 I Permelia Anderson, Born, September 28, 1807. II Gabriel Anderson, Born, December 25, 1810. Moved to Missouri. III Edmund Anderson Born, March 15, 1813. IV Eliza Anderson, Born, February 9, 1816. V Thomas Anderson, Born, February 18, 1818. VI Mahala Anderson, Born, February 18, 1921. VII Warner Anderson, Born, July 13, 1822. VIII Julia Anderson, Born, July 6, 1824. The family tradition of Flossie Anderson says there were two other children who died young by the name of Carmi and Martha. Care should be taken in accepting data regarding the burial site of John Anderson. His wife's tombstone in Rathbone cemetery is headed with the notation 'Morning wife of John Anderson. That portion of the headstone containing the 'Morning wife of' has been broken off. It was found upon clearing the cemetery in the 1970's. Unfortunately, this circumstance had led many who made cemetery notations before this clearance of the cemetery to improperly record this site and date as that of John Anderson. In actuality John is buried in 'Union Hall' / 'Shed' Cemetery found west of McLeansboro, Illinois by taking 142 to the Golf Course Road left then a couple miles to the cemetery on the left at the road side. It is a white stone well weathered and barley legible in 1998. The Rathbone cemetery was apparently not available for burials in 1873 so he was not buried with his wife. His wife Mourning and daughters Permelia and Julia Ann are buried on the site of the old Rathbone home southwest of McLeansboro. John died on March 19, 1873. The first page still puzzles me. I'm not sure what is being said there. It seems that the probability that the William Anderson being discussed there is based on the fact that the cousins went to Georgia together. Perhaps if I were more familiar with the entire situation, I would know the answer. At any rate, the William on page one seems to be the starting place for my wife's grandmother's family. If he descends from John, Jordan or any of the others, I guess that makes the rest of the secession her family. If you can clear this up, I will appreciate it. Which is your line? I have a little information on William Lewis and some of his descendents if you want it. He wound up in Arkansas. The tie is definite that he is the one mentioned in the info you sent. I know that my wife's relative married Eudocia M Hill. I know when she died and where she is buried. Wm L's son, Joseph A married Branbley Ann Elizabeth Daniel. Now that is a name for you. I have the original family pages from their family bible. He Her father lists himself and Sir William Daniel. Don't know what that means. I have never had time to get to any research on the Daniel name. Daniels and Hills are from Georgia, I believe. Have you run into any of them? Not too many people around in those days and I thought some of them might have shown up in families you are researching. If you want or need any information on Wm L, I'll furnish what I have. I only know what I got when Carolyn's (my wife) aunt died. Mostly hand written notes and a few yellow typed page. Information gleaned from family back in the 30's and 40's I imagine. I know some is incorrect. I will send you a paragraph that you might find fun. Some of it can't be true. I'll tell you which part when you have read it. I have now idea who wrote the original. 'Great grandfather William Anderson, who was born in Virginia and moved to Macon Ga. and later to Mississippi married a Miss Moore. (My note:Later Hill was added here.) In 1844 he chartered a Mississippi steamboat, loaded all of his household and plantation equipment including 100 or more slaves and set out from near Corinth Miss. going up the River to the mouth of the Red River and thence up the Ouachita to Arkadelphia. The River was navigable no further. Six miles south of Arkadelphia he settled a plantation which was named Richwoods.' It goes on to list his children, three of whom died in the Civil War. That sounds dramatic, but I have no idea how they got to Arkadelphia by that route. 'Up the River' might mean the Mississippi. The Red river does not empty into it. Also, the Red river is west of the Ouachita, near Texarkana. The Ouachita does not go to Arkadelphia but actually east of there. All this makes some to the rest of it suspect. However, the information is right on as far as names, dates of birth, death, marriage, etc. Anyway, thanks again. Frank | |

Recorded 3 February 1791 Because of the small amount of payment it is likely that Isham is a relation. There are two long branches in Nottoway County but the one that the Andersons lived on is SSE of current Blackstone Virginia. Both David and Daniel married daughters of John Anderson who lived on long branch until 1815.
