He married, 1stly, Alfwen, and, 2ndly, Isilia, probably daughter and heir of Hervey de Bourges, who survived him (h). The date of his death is not known. [Complete Peerage X:331, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)] (f) He held under Richard FitzGilbert, lord of Clare, at Dalham and Clopton, Suffolk, and Gestingthorpe, Essex; under Aubrey de Vere at Belcham Walter, Essex; and under Roger Bigod at Stoke Holy Cross, Norfolk [Domesday Book]. | Note* | HAMON PECCHE, son and heir, was a minor at his father's death, his custody and marriage being granted, 1 January 1212/3, to Hugh de Boues. He appears to have reached man's estate in time to be associated with his family connections in the armed opposition of the Barons to John (i). In 1221 he did his service in the campaign against Biham, and served under the Earl Marshal in the Welsh war of 1223, receiving in September 1225 a grant to maintain himself in the King's service. He was crossing the sea on duty for the King in 1230, and had protection to visit his lands abroad in 1232. In 1233 he was serving in the Welsh Marches. Later he went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, on which he died, probably in the summer of 1241. He married Eve, a foreigner, who survived him. [Complete Peerage X:334-5, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)] (i) His lands in Essex, Kent, Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambs, and Lincs were restored to him on his return to allegiance, 3 Oct 1217. In Jan 1218/9 Bourn was one of the fees of Richmond retained in the King's hand on giving seisin to the Count of Brittany, and in 1220 Hamon had to make a fine for it as one whole barony and part of a barony. | |

| Note* | GILBERT PECCHE, brother and heir [of elder brother Geoffrey, dsp. bef. 29 Sep 1188]. Before his brother's death he went on pilgrimage to the Holy Land. As a knight of the Abbot of Bury he took part in 1196 in the dispute between Abbot Sampson and his tenants about their services (j). He received the freedom of Ipswich under their recent charter, November 1200. In 1201 he was assessed 58 marks for not having crossed the seas with the King. He fined 100 marks in 1203-04 to have seisin of Bourn, and again to send two knights in his place to John's campaign in Ireland in 1210. He married Alice, daughter of Walter FITZROBERT, lord of Dunmow, Essex, and sister of Robert F1TZWALTER. He died shortly before, 9 July 1212. His widow was living in 1213. [Complete Peerage X:333-4, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)] (j) He fined in 1199 for having his manor of Cheveley, and received from John a charter confirming it, as his ancestors had held it, of the gift of Roger FitzRichard, and as the deeds they have thereof testified. | Note* | John was obliged by his father to settle the manor of Great Thurlow and Pledgdon, Essex on his step mother, Joan de Creye, which he did before her death in 1302. Even though he was eldest son, John was more or less completely disinherited by his father, in favor of the eldest son by his 2nd wife. This son, Gilbert, became 1st Baron Pecche. [info from Complete Peerage, X:336, note 'e'] Note: John settled the properties sometime between Aug 1291 & 1302. I don't know whether it was upon John's death or whether he was still alive. | |

| Note* | He [Gilbert Pecche] married, 1stly, Maud DE HASTINGES (a). She died 1264 or 1265 (b). [Complete Peerage X:335-6, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)] (a) She was probably an older daughter of Henry de Hastinges (grandfather of the first Lord Hastinges of Abergavenny), who, at his death, 1250, left 3 unmarried daughters. In 1254 it was Gilbert Pecche who undertook, to the King's Council, that Ada de Hastinges, sister of Henry de Hastinges, should not marry before the King's return from abroad. (b) At the time of the troubles in the realm, so that she had to be buried at St. Mary's Overy (now Southwark Cathedral), and only her heart was taken to Barnwell. By this marriage Gilbert had sons John and Edmund, whom he disinherited in favour of his eldest son by his 2nd marriage. | |
