| Note* | Responded to the Lexington Alarm from Bolton, where he died. Also No. 31763 NSDAR Vol 74, page 164 says he was born in Bolton. Also says he died in Berlin,Massachusetts . Name given both as Fairbank and Fairbanks. Entries in Bolton Vital Records vary from chil d to child. I have chosen to utilize the standardized surname Fairbanks for research purpose s. Probably the Ephraim Fairbanks (surname listed plural) listed in the 1790 Massachusetts c ensus in Berlin, Massachusetts with household of 1 adult male and 3 adult females (adult=>16) , especially in view of the NSDAR Vol 74 entry that states he died in Berlin, and the fact th at his son Manassah was also in Berlin then. NSDAR Vol 148 states first line verbatim excep t replaces word died with born. NSDAR Vol 60, page 51; Vol. 80, page 326; Vol. 102, page 270; Vol 32, p 282; Vol 37, p 165 ; Vol 146; Vol 148, p 171; Vol 105, page 45; Vol 91, page 2171 | |

April 18, 1750 Rosters: Lancaster, MA 1757, 1758, 1759 and 1759-1760 F&I Northern Wars Ticonderoga & Crown Point By the spring of 1759, the intense energy of Mr. Pitt had entered into the whole army, and th e campaign carried forward with resistless power. The land forces were lead by Jeffrey, Lord Amherst, while Wolfe approached Canada with the British fleet. The French, unable to resist the force of Amherst, abandoned Ticonderoga, blowing it up to prevent its fall into our hands; and on the first of August withdrew from Crown Point. Colonel Oliver Wilder served in this expedition and led quite a detachment of Lancaster men. They entered into the service in April. Some of them were enlisted, and some of them impressed men. A note on the old muster roll says, that twenty-four were 'impressed,' and that, 'most had been in former expeditions to Nova Scotia or the lakes,' and also that they carried their 'own arms' 1759 Below are the names of Colonel Wilder's townsmen and fellow warriors: Robert Phelps Jonathan Phelps William Perham Joseph Turner Thomas Barney Abner Osgood Jonathan Townsend Matthew Larkin John Headley Phinehas Bailey Jotham Wilder Joshua Proutie Daniel Albert Jr. Peter Larkin Frederick Albert John Bailey John Goodenow Stephen Kendall Samuel Kendall Levi Kendall Henry Wyman Joseph Bixpy Jedediah Cooper Ephraim Goss John McCarthy Joseph Squineen Ebenezer Pike Joseph Bailey Samuel Goodenow Daniel Cook Reuben Walker John McBride Joseph Steuart John Dunsmoor George Bush, Jr. John Crosby Micah Bryant Nathaniel Wright Joseph Turner. Captain Aaron Willard, with about eighty men, was with Brigadier Ruggles, thirty-five days during the spring. There were several Lancaster men in his company, but their names cannot be identified in all cases. The forces of Amherst did not reach Canada this year, but they occupied so large a proportio n of the French army, that Wolfe was thereby aided in the conquest of Quebec. p.262 Pitt pronounced the highest eulogiums upon the campaign of Amherst. Whatever credit was deserved, belonged in part to Colonel Wilder and his townsmen, and we can imagine how their dangers and exploits were the theme of conversation and interest round every fireside in the succeeding winter. Colonel Abijah Willard led a regiment under Amherst. His adjutant was Cyrus Fairbank, and his quartermaster, Mannassah Divoll. The war was now virtually ended, since the fall of Quebec involved the conquest of all Canada , which took place next year and led to the peace which was declared in 1763. | Note* | (or Medcalf) Metcalf genealogy states that Mary was the daughter of John Fairbanks. Probably becaus e Savage says in Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, page 135: ' John, Dedham, perhaps br of Jonathan the first, brot. from Eng. it is said, only d. Mary, wh . m. 2 or 12 Apr 1644 Michael Metcalf the sec. and no more is heard of him.' Gen Dict says 'perhaps by mistake.' in another part, listing the children of Jonathan. It is also possible that Mary was indeed the daughter of John Fairbanks, whom the Fairbanks g enealogy claim as the father of Jonathan. That would have meant Michael married a woman som e 20 years his senior. Probably the naming of the fourth child Jonathan is a clue as the th e ancestry. Michael Metcalf was freeman in 1645, and died Jan 1654 (Lawson), or 'no more i s heard of him' Gen Dict, or 24 Dec 1654. Since second marriage was Jun of 1654, then 24 De c 1654 is more likely than the others. Huff does not have death date. Bingham lists marriag e as 2 Feb 1644. He also lists a son John (21 Jan 1648-27 sep 1675)also from Weymouth Home P ages (http://www.tiac.net/users/weymouth/) file: fam08330.htm. One genealogy has birth at St .
