We are rebuilding our website, including this links
page. This page will feature the unusual and seldom trod. Currently we
only have a few of our links here. The page should grow rapidly over the
next few weeks. (3/18/01)

Books
Cooking
 | AGA: AGA
Cookers of North America--Greatest stove on the planet. Who says the
English don't know how to cook? Three quarters of a ton of cast
iron. This stove is on all the time--cooks from stored heat. If
you cook for a family it is extremely efficient and cooks food
perfectly. Four ovens--450, 350, 250, and 150 degrees. Two hot
plates--800 and 400, and a warming plate. Kitchen is warm and
inviting. Slow cooking is back!
|
 | King Aurthur
Flour: Flour and baking supplies. The best bread bakers
swear by this flower. In our experience, it does make better
bread. Very good selection of kitchen and baking equipment too.
King Arthur has had a great catalog for years. Now their website is
great too.
|
 | Chef Store:
Good source for kitchen equipment.
|
 | Pleasant Hill
Grain: Sold high quality grain during the Y2K scare. Has now
expanded to baking and kitchen equipment, including grain mills and soy milk
makers. Very nice people to deal with.
|
 | Dualit
Toasters: Brave little toasters from England.
|
Food
 | Smithfield
Hams: A taste of the old south--both ready to eat and for cooking
at home. Country Hams. Great Bacon. Best sausage in the world.
|
 | Fortnum
& Mason: Home of the original English Christmas Hamper.
|
 | Harry & David:
Great place for tasty Christmas gifts. Home of the best pears on the
planet.
|
Genealogy
 | Cyndi's List:
The sine qua non of Genealogy sites. A portal to everything about
genealogy--Family trees, GEDCOM files, free and commercial genealogy
software and information, message boards and forums, etc.
|
 | GenForum:
A great genealogy discussion forum, sorted by family names.
|
 | RootsWeb: One
of the earliest and largest search sites for family trees.
|
 | The Master
Genealogist: TMG by Wholly Genes Software. Probably the most
comprehensive and flexible commercial genealogy database program. Has
excellent conversion utilities to and from other genealogy software packages
and GEDCOM files. For the sophisticated genealogist with computer
background. Not for beginners. (Note: this is the one that I use.)
|
 | Family Tree Maker:
FTM by Broderbund Software. Probably the best package for beginning to
intermediate genealogists. Has extensive data files and shared family
trees to get beginners started--both on CD ROM and on the net. You
need to be careful with the published data, however, it is of variable
quality--check your sources. (Note: this is the genealogy program I
first used. Be aware, however, that Broderbund will constantly try to get
you to buy upgrade after upgrade, some of which are worthwhile.)
|
 | Personal Ancestral
File: PAF by the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormon). Excellent
freeware and data available online or via CD ROM (for a really small
charge). Definitely OK for beginners. OK even for advanced users.
Genealogical data, once accepted into the Mormon databanks is generally very
reliable and well researched. (Note: I use both their data and
their program when I want something simpler and quicker than TMG for merging
multiple GEDCOM files.)
|
 | GED4WEB: The
shareware program I use to publish my Genealogy database on my
website. Easy to use and produces a nice looking site. Is not
expensive.
|
 | GenBrowser &
Web2GED: Shareware from Ripple
Effect Software. These two programs allow you to download several
formats of browser-based family trees and re-integrate them into a GEDCOM
file. Both written by the same developer, GenBrowser has more
functions, Web2GED is more powerful for re-integrating GEDCOM files.
For very large websites both programs will duplicate names. Use your
regular genealogy program to merge duplicates. If only getting one
program, get GenBrowser.
|
 | Ancestry.com:
Commercial site. Thousands of useful databases, articles, genealogical
publications, and original documents. Particularly useful to my
research has been the Daughters
of the American Revolution Lineage Books.
|
General Interest
 | CEO Express:
A great portal (I use it as my browser home page) with links to news,
business, travel, and recreational sites. You can personalize the page
for the links you want--and even add your own.

The
Scottish Psalter of 1650: "The Psalms of David in Metre According
to the Version Approved by The Church of Scotland." Often
referred to as "The Scottish Psalter of 1650" because the General
Assembly of the Church of Scotland approved the text of this Psalter for use
by the church in 1650.

store. Open 24 hours a day forever, I remember driving down to
Freeport with fellow Harvard Business School students after evening studies
to shop at 2 am and still get back to school for class in the morning.
Beans is an old line catalog company really understands the internet.
The site has the feel of the store at 2 am.
